I chose acrylic because it dries quicker than cotton and doesn't mildew. They do get wet and they suds up really well. I chose to use a combination of fpdc & bpdc stiches and they really are very scrubby. However, they are not absorbent so when I wipe my counters and stove top I just dry them off with a kitchen towel. My original scrubby was square and then my best friend asked if I could make one of the corners bigger so she could hang them to dry and now we have the best dish scrubby. Stitches: sc hdc fpdc bpdc sc2tog [single crochet two together: insert hook in same chain space and pull up a loop, insert hook in next chain space and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all three loops] I used a Medium Worsted Weight (4) acrylic yarn and an E hook. You can use any yarn you choose (including cotton, scrubby yarn, or a combination of the two) but I recommend going down a few hook sizes so as to create tighter stitches. Written Instructions: (Detailed Photo Instructions below) Chain 25 Row 1: Put a sc in 7th ch from hook, [ch1, sk1 chain, sc in next chain] 8x, ch3, sl st in the last ch. (10 chain 1 spaces created) Row 2: Without turning, ch3 and rotate your work, fpdc around 1st sc, ch1. [bpdc around next sc, ch1, fpdc around next sc, ch1] to end, hdc in last space. (10 spaces created) Row 3: Turn, ch3, fpdc around 1st post st, ch1. [bpdc around next post st, ch1, fpdc around next post st, ch1] to end, hdc in last space. (10 spaces created) Rows 4-10: Repeat row 3. (You should have 10 spaces on all 4 side edges.) Border: (rotate slightly to work down the left side) do not ch1, make a sc2tog around the 1st post, [sc in same space, sc2tog around next post] to corner, 7sc in first corner. *[Work sc2tog around next post, sc in same space, sc2tog around next post to corner, 3sc in first corner] 3x. Finish: cut a 3" tail and pull the yarn out, sk 1 sc and insert the hook into the next sc from the front, wrap yarn around hook and pull through, insert hook in front loop only from the back of the sc before the skipped sc, wrap yarn around hook and pull through, you just created a mock sc which looks neater than a sl st. Now use a darning needle to weave in that end back and forth at least 3 times on the back of scrubby. Photo Instructions: Notes:
